"Increasing sales in Latin America required Mobis to obtain a larger distribution facility to supply the growing Latin American markets for its Hyundai and Kia brands," John Vaught of CB Richard Ellis' Global Supply Chain Practice Group, says. Vaught and his colleague Elsa Heredia represented the buyer. David Albert, of Flagler Real Estate Service, represented the seller, AMB Codina Beacon Lakes LLC.
CB Richard Ellis conducted a multi-market site selection study which considered locations from Norfolk, VA to New Orleans. Several Latin American cities, especially Panama City, were given strong consideration during the search.
"Mobis selected Miami based on the business-friendly environment at the Port of Miami, strong carrier partner presence in Miami, support and assistance from the Beacon Council and local availability of a skilled labor pool for their operations," Vaught says.
Established in 1977 as Hyundai Precision Industry, Hyundai Mobis grew into a top container manufacturer. In 2000, the company moved its container manufacturing plants overseas and acquired the A/S parts business from Hyundai Motor and Kia Motor. In January 2002, the company ceded its plants and heavy machinery business to Rotem Co. and successfully completed its restructuring process with A/S parts sales, auto parts export and module parts manufacturing as its operating areas.
