The Harris Teeter lease has been pending for many months. And according to Liz Price, NoMa BID president, it will be the first grocery store in the subdistrict--and a key piece in NoMa's plans to develop itself into a work-live-play destination.

The Harris Teeter store, which will be located at the corner of First and M streets, NE, will be a full-service grocery store. When the NoMa store opens in winter 2010, it will be the third Harris Teeter store in the DC area.

The city is assisting in the development of Constitution Square's with tax incentives. Specifically, at the end of January the city ouncil passed the Constitution Square Economic Development Act of 2008. Among other benefits, it will assist with the cost of parking for the Harris Teeter store. "We talk a lot about the importance of building dynamic new neighborhoods. Well, NoMa is exhibit A," says DC Mayor Adrian Fenty. "First NPR, then the Justice Department and now a high-end, full service-grocery store--all within a few feet of Metrorail station--NoMa is no longer just a plan, it's a reality."
