NoMa Developer Wastes No Time Breaking Ground

WASHINGTON, DC-The Department of Justice 521,000-sf lease was substantial enough to secure the development of a second office building in the Constitution Square complex in NoMa. The news that the developers, StonebridgeCarras of Bethesda, MD and Walton Street Capital of Chicago, won the long-awaited deal only came this month, but the duo are prepared to break ground next week. “We were prepared to mobilize within days of getting the lease award,” Doug Firstenberg, CEO of Stonebridge, tells GlobeSt.com.

The two firms had been in the permitting and design process for well over a year. The only missing data was whether their proposed development would house the Department of Justice. Without the lease, Firstenberg says, the development still would have gone forward, but with only one office building, the proposed residential component and the 50,000-sf Harris Teeter grocery store—Noma’s first.
