Datacenter Operator Joins Energy Star Program

SAN FRANCISCO-The EPA has a new Energy Star member in the datacenter facilities column: Owner 365 Main Inc. will participate in the creation of a rating for that sector.

SAN FRANCISCO-Datacenter owner and operator 365 Main Inc. has joined the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program. The locally based company says it will participate in the EPA’s development of an Energy Star performance rating for datacenter facilities, which used as much electricity in 2006 as 5.8 million households.

For 365 Main, the program rounds out a “greening” effort that includes participation in programs offered by PG&E, the Green Grid and the US Green Building Council. For the EPA, 365 Main will help provide benchmark data for creating a standard by which the industry can be measured.As an Energy Star partner, 365 Main has agreed to measure and track energy performance where possible by using tools such as those offered by Energy Star, to develop and implement a plan consistent with the program’s guidelines, and to educate staff and the public about the resulting energy savings.
