Atlanta-based Carter was selected by the university as program manager to develop the projects, which are aimed at enhancing student-life-related facilities on the campus. The university is located 15 miles southeast of Atlanta and has 6,000 students.

"Our number-one purpose is to meet the higher education needs for this region," Thomas Harden, Clayton State president, said in a prepared statement. "We need to provide a residential experience for first-time, full-time freshmen. There also needs to be more opportunities on campus for activities for all students."

The housing facility will be the university's first on-campus housing, is designed around a freshmen residency program that dovetails with the first-year curriculum and is meant to bring students together to foster academic and social growth. The student activity center includes a variety of physical education and recreational spaces, as well as areas for student groups to work and play together.
