Prime Outlets Starts St. Augustine Expansion

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL-The retail center will add 90,000 sf, making room for 90 new and remerchandised stores.

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL-Work is under way on a $35 million, 90,000-sf expansion of the 250,000-sf Prime Outlets St. Augustine at Interstate 95 and State Road 16. Baltimore-based Prime Retail says the project will increase the retail center’s size by 35%, for a total of 340,000 sf, making room for and 90 new and remerchandised stores.

With the change, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th will be the new anchor and introduce a 28,000-sf prototype store design. The project also includes the renovation of the center’s existing interior and exterior spaces, along with an updated 400-seat food court. The new space will be built in front of the existing space, with construction of the new Saks store in front of that space.

Karen Fluharty, Prime Retail senior vice president of marketing, tells GlobeSt.com that the project was undertaken due to Saks Fifth Avenue’s interest in opening a store at the center and the strength of the St. Augustine market. “We believe in the St. Augustine market,” Fluharty says. “This center serves St. Augustine and Jacksonville, which we see as growth markets.”
