The new Publix, which is being constructed by Moss & Associates of Fort Lauderdale, will be part of the mixed-use Mary Brickell Village in the Brickell Avenue corridor. The development also includes condominiums to be built over the four-story Mary Brickell dining, shopping and entertainment complex at South Miami and Tenth avenues.

To maximize retail floor space, the store's first floor will feature the customer sales and food preparation areas and the second floor/mezzanine will feature administrative offices, break rooms and mechanical equipment. Two floors of parking will be located above the store, which customers can access by service elevators. The store's mechanical equipment for refrigeration will be installed in the parking area.

Moss & Associates has worked on the other Publix projects in the area, including a similar two-story supermarket in western Fort Lauderdale, and stores in Miami Lakes, North Miami and Pompano Beach. Two other stores are in the final planning stages, including one on Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach and another on Coral Way in Miami.

"Our construction team is helping Publix expand its retail footprint and achieve its business goals in South Florida by ensuring stores open on budget and on schedule," says Chad Moss, vice president of Moss & Associates. Publix currently holds the largest market share among supermarket chains operating in Florida at 40%, according to the Shelby Report, an industry newsletter.
