"Our expansion into New York City is extremely exciting," says Brad Korzen, founder and CEO of Kor Hotel Group, in a prepared statement. "Visibility in this major international city has been a goal of ours for some time now. We are looking forward to this venture and believe that our Viceroy brand will thrive in the cosmopolitan, urban sophistication that New York exemplifies."
The Viceroy plans to have 168 rooms and signature dining venues for its patrons. Among its other amenities, there will be a full-floor event space on the 21st floor, which will connect to the 22nd floor for a combined 9,000 sf, housing a VIP board room, lounge and a pool with cabanas on a rooftop terrace. Queries regarding cost of the renovations were not returned by deadline.
Toronto-based Yabu Pushelberg will handle the interior design responsibilities for the brand hotel, having lent her design acumen, previously, to Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Peninsula Hotels and Bergdorf Goodman, among others. The project is being developed by locally-based Tribeca Associates LLC, in partnership with Greenwich, CT-based Square Mile Capital Management LLC and locally based Latus Partners LLC. The Viceroy plans to be open by 2010, joining its sister hotels in Santa Monica and Palm Springs.
