Most of the new building, 17,756 sf to be exact, will be used by the Ocean County Board of Social Services as a satellite office, and the Ocean County Health Department will occupy the remaining 1,744 sf. The Board of Social Services is moving from temporary quarters nearby; its previous 15,255-sf building was demolished during the first phase of construction at Stafford Business Park, which is rising in phases on a former landfill.
"The additional space allows for employee growth as the county population grows," says Larry Perlberg, attorney for the board. "Second, the construction of the mall and of other county facilities in the area, together with the upgrades to the surrounding road system, will make this new location more visible and convenient."
Ed Walters, founder and partner of the Barnegat-based Walters Group, says that "construction of Stafford Park is progressing nicely. As far as the retail, the Costco and Target sites are under construction and are expected to open their doors this summer."
Besides Costco and Target, Best Buy, Dick's and PetSmart have signed on for the retail portion of Stafford Business Park. The entire retail center is expected to be fully open in 2009.
