District Seeks Developers for Hill East

WASHINGTON, DC-Hill East, 50-acre parcel and former DC General Hospital, is the last big piece of land yet to be developed under DC's Anacostia Waterfront.

WASHINGTON, DC-The District has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest for a master developer to redevelop the Hill East neighborhood on the Anacostia River. This 50-acre plot of land includes the former DC General Hospital campus. Specifically the District is seeking a developer that can build to green standards as the US Green Building Council has selected this site as a LEED neighborhood development area. In fact, the project was promoted at an Urban Land Institute Green Conference in North Carolina in April.

The site is also significant as it is the last major piece of the District’s Anacostia Waterfront Initiative calling for redevelopment, Mayor Adrian Fenty, says in a prepared statement. “This is an incredible opportunity to reconnect the Capitol Hill neighborhoods to the Anacostia River.” The District expects the redevelopment of Hill East to take up to 10 years. The 12-million-sf Anacostia Waterfront also includes the Southwest Waterfront project and Poplar Point.
