Deal$ offers merchandise for $5 or less. The stores, which average 11,000 sf, operate in 16 states. The Deal$ store in Grant Plaza will replace an Eckerd Drugs and is expected to open later this year. Donna Drew, an associate with Metro Commercial Real Estate Inc. in Philadelphia represented Dollar Tree in the transaction.
As previously reported by GlobeSt.com, the Dollar Tree brand has been expanding aggressively in the Philadelphia market, partly driven by a rise in consumers seeking bargains during uncertain economic times. Dollar Tree revealed plans to open five new stores in the Philadelphia region by November, and recently signed leases in Eagleville, PA and New Britain, PA.
There are two Deal$ stores in the area already, in the Oregon Avenue Shopping Center at 2017 W. Oregon Ave. in South Philadelphia and in the Williamstown Center at 111 S. Black Horse Pike in Williamstown, NJ. The company plans to roll out 20 new Dollar Tree stores and 50 more Deal$ stores in the region over the next five years.
Deal$, which previously operated primarily in the Midwest and Southeast US, was acquired by Dollar Tree in 2006. Further details of the transaction were not available as of press time.
