A LEED-accredited professional and member of the Counselors of Real Estate, Chappell serves as the Ambassador of Sustainable Initiatives for the Appraisal Institute and recently co-authored a one-day seminar for the Appraisal Institute entitled "An Introduction to Valuing Green Buildings," which premieres in June. She has been chosen by the Appraisal Institute to assist in the development of a national "Certificate in Sustainability" in collaboration with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Environmental Protection Agency. Chappell is also a Director of the Green Building Finance Consortium, a group of industry professionals engaged in identifying the most appropriate metrics by which to assess sustainable development for the valuation, underwriting and investment communities.
Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Chappell served as CEO of Beaverton, Ore.-based Sustainable Values Inc., where she provided consulting services in valuation and investment analysis, market analyses, the feasibility of urban redevelopment projects and objective assessments of the potential impacts on value of sustainable development. Her clients include the Cascadia Chapter of the USGBC, which was the original chapter of the USGBC, as well as various investment firms, architects and developers. Prior to that, Chappell was managing director of Pacific Security Capital's Commercial real estate advisory services business unit.
At C&W, Chappell will specialize in market, feasibility and investment analysis, specifically related to the valuation and financing of new, existing and urban redevelopment projects, as well as the identification and quantification of the benefits of sustainable development. She also will provide consulting services for commercial, industrial, retail and multifamily properties, including highest and best use analysis and evaluation, market analysis, partial interest studies, estate valuations, lease arbitration and portfolio analysis.
"In addition to being a compelling moral issue for our times, sustainable development makes sound economic sense for developers, investors and tenants, as well," says Chris Lowery, C&W's chief executive of Global Capital Markets & Principal Activities. "The addition of Theddi to our firm furthers our ability to quantify and demonstrate this benefit to enhance the decision-making of our clients."
