Monster Selects SC for Service Center

FLORENCE, SC-The 350-employee operation will open in temporary space during construction.

FLORENCE, SC-Monster.com, a Web site that connects people to jobs, is creating some of its own here by announcing plans Thursday for a customer service center. The 350-employee operation will open in September in temporary office space while the company’s permanent facility is built.

New York-based Monster Worldwide Inc., the parent company of the online careers and recruitment resource, did not disclose many other details about its Florence center during a news conference with state and local officials. A developer and site for the new center were not disclosed, and the temporary offices will involve a 35,000-sf space in Downtown Florence.

Nevertheless, the announcement is cause for celebration in Florence, which has attracted a number of Fortune 500 and international firms in recent years, according to Kyle Edney, assistant director of the Florence County Economic Development Partnership. Earlier this month, H.J. Heinz Co. announced plans to build a $150-million frozen foods plant in Florence that will also employ 350 local residents.
