Those 157 units will be arrayed across 10, three-story buildings, and preconstruction sales just got under way. The site is at the intersection of Freneau Ave.--also known as State Route 79--and Old Mill Rd. in this Monmouth County community. The cost of the project has not been released.

The project takes its name from an adjacent 10-acre preserve of woodlands and water. The community, which will have units of up to 1,635 sf, will back up to that preserve. The site is also less than two miles from the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station, a busy commuter hub for northern Monmouth and eastern Middlesex counties.

"The community will be affordable, and will have proximity to highways and train services," says Paul Csik, SVP of American Properties Realty. "Commuters can get to New York in less than an hour, and the fact that it's near some of the state's best beach towns will further create a comfortable lifestyle for buyers."

The start of work for the Preserve at Matawan comes just as APR has started construction for the second phase of the 118-unit Mill Pond community, also in Monmouth County, about 15 miles south of here in Eatontown. The company is also working on the 235-unit Jefferson project in Ewing Township, in Mercer County.
