FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- Starwood Hotels & Resorts Inc. has announced that the Castillo Grand LLC-owned St. Regis Resort located at One North Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. will no longer be carrying the St. Regis name as of Aug. 10. Clearwater-based Castillo Grand says that the 192-room luxury beachfront hotel will be managed by Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. LLC under a 30-year agreement. The property will be renamed the Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale.
"We have had some ongoing differences between Starwood and our company for about three years or four years," Fred Bullard, Castillo Grand managing partner, tells GlobeSt.com. He cites frequent changes in Starwood management as part of those unresolved issues. The hotel's 320 employees are expected to remain through the management change, which Bullard says will make operations smoother and more productive.
"We are very pleased to add this outstanding resort to the family of Ritz-Carlton properties in Florida," Simon F. Cooper, president and chief operating officer of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co., said in a release. The Fort Lauderdale location will be the tenth holding the Ritz-Carlton name in the state.
The St. Regis Fort Lauderdale Resort is one of only seven carrying that flag throughout North America. The local resort, designed by Miami-based Arquitectonica, also includes private units, which will be dubbed the Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale.
"The lifestyle of our residence owners is going to be greatly enhanced by the change to the Ritz-Carlton," says Bullard of the 32 condominium residences atop the hotel. The building also includes 28 condo-hotel units, two ballrooms, an executive boardroom, a spa, fitness center, 29,000-sf pool deck featuring cabanas and three dining facilities.
