Kuka Home is run by company president Hailong Gu, whose father founded the business in 1986. The vertically integrated upholstered furniture manufacturing business that includes leather tanning, polyurethane foam manufacturing, product research & development, furniture production and a 700-store branded retail chain, China's largest.

Kuka Home began exporting leather and fabric upholstered pieces in 2005 and now counts upon North America for 40% of total sales, Europe for 32%, Australia & New Zealand for 14%, and the Middle East for 11%. Kuka's products may be found at retailers such as Crate & Barrel, Sears/Kmart, Pier One, Marshalls/TJ Maxx, Rooms to Go, Bloomingdales, Z Gallerie, Cost Plus World Market, El Dorado Furniture and Sears Canada.

Located at the intersection of South Grand Central Parkway, West Charleston Boulevard and Interstate 15, World Market Center is an integrated home and hospitality contract furnishings showroom and convention complex, a place where designers and manufacturers lease space to show off their latest products to retailers and other wholesale buyers. WMC was conceived by real estate developers Jack Kashani and Shawn Samson in 1999. In 2004, they brought on the Related Cos. LP of New York City to help finance the development.

Since 2005, at a cost of $1.1 billion, World Market Center has grown from an idea to 5 million sf in three massive buildings. Construction for the fourth building, approved in January, was set to get under way this month, but has been put on hold (see related story).
