WEST CALDWELL, NJ – Construction is ready to start for phases two and three of Crane’s Mill, a continuing care retirement community here. A project of the Burlington-based Lutheran Social Ministries of NJ, Crane’s Mill’s phase one opened on the 35-acre site of a former lumber mill dating to the mid 1700s.

Phases two and three, carrying a price tag of $27 million, are slated for a 16-month build-out, according to Jerry Nugent, president and CEO of LSM/NJ. Phase two, fronting Passaic Avenue, will add 70 independent living apartments in a two-story building connected to Crane’s Mill’s existing central building. Also part of the plan are 10 residential cottages and 47 underground parking spaces.
