The facility will be used as a primary Midwest distribution center, according to a release from ProLogis. "This is one of ProLogis' single largest lease agreements for new inventory space in North America this year," ProLogis senior vice president and Midwest regional director Doug Kiersey said in the statement.
The online retailer will receive up to $1.65 million in performance-based tax credits and up to $149,500 in training grants from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. based on the company's job creation plans, according to a release from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The distribution center, which will be operated by Amazon.com.indc LLC, is expected to create more than 350 new jobs by 2011, according to IEDC's release. Amazon.com will also have a distribution center in Whitestown, IN and a fulfillment center in Munster, IN. The distribution center is expected to employ more than 1,200 people while the fulfillment center is expected to employ about 100 people, according to IEDC's release.
AirTech Park is located near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Ronald Reagan Parkway and is near Interstates 70, 465, 65 and 74 in addition to Indianapolis International Airport. The 500-acre park has approximately five million sf of industrial and office facilities, according to information on Browning Investments' website. Tenants and clients of the park include Belkin, Brightpoint, Electrolux, JC Penney, Ozburn-Hessey Logistics and PepsiCo. The joint venture plans to begin construction on a 660,000-sf distribution warehouse that is scheduled to be completed in the middle of 2009, according to a release from Browning. The cross-docked facility will have 36 feet clear height, approximately 65 dock doors and T5 fluorescent lighting, according to the release.
