The new facility will serve builders, remodelers and homeowners in the region with an inventory of lumber, windows and doors, drywall, moldings, decking and railing and hand and power tools. The facility will also be adjacent to Kuiken Brothers' 6,000-sf KB Window, Kitchen and Millwork showroom. The cost of the project hasn't been released.

The site does have a prior history as a lumberyard, and required some remediation. "As a result of our redevelopment and engineering plan, the facility will have a positive impact on the environment and water quality," says company president Doug Kuiken. "Besides the new structures, there will be extensive landscaping and permanent conservation areas."

It will also have rail service, which had been inactive for more than a decade. "One of the benefits of rail service is that it greatly reduces the number of trucks on the road," Kuiken says. "Rail service allows us to buy lumber materials direct from the lumber mills."
