The Harpers Ferry property is the Historic Hilltop House Hotel. It will be redeveloped and transformed into a luxury hotel and spa. The Hotel Ithaca in Ithaca will be one of only two luxury boutique hotels in the Finger Lakes region. Both are slated to open in 2011.

The Historic Hilltop House Hotel is located at 400 East Ridge St., overlooking Harpers Ferry National Park at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. Its location puts it within reach of Northern Virginia wine country, major historic Civil War battlefields, and the riverside town center of Harpers Ferry.

Gemstone principal Jeff McIntyre says the restoration and modernization of the property will result in a 150-room hotel with a restaurant, meeting and event spaces and an indoor-outdoor spa. The historic US Armory houses surrounding the hotel will be carefully restored to serve as guest cottages.

Hotel Ithaca, currently in final planning and approval, will be a nine-story, full-service boutique hotel at the intersection of State and Aurora streets. The 125-key hotel will be built on the same site as the original Hotel Ithaca and will be the home of Zinck's Bar, a local institution.

Gemstone principal Thomas Prins says the hotel will "set a new standard in concept and operations" in part to "set an example for students and the many hotelier alumni" who visit Ithaca's renowned Cornell Hotel School.

Headquartered in Park City, Gemstone specializes in luxury and upscale urban hotels and resorts. Gemstone currently directly manages or asset manages approximately 20 developments.
