The new Janse-Butler House began construction in June of 2007 and finished base construction roughly a year later. Further site work pushed the completion date and the budget to just under $4 million, according to Saul Schrader of Acella.

The building was proposed as a 16,000-sf dormitory, which held off on the second phase of construction--a 3,000-sf wing. The space for the additional 3,000 sf had a site confliction with the current infirmary. To accommodate the second phase, further renovation will have to be done to relocate the infirmary. For the meantime, the school is preparing to start construction on a new student center with a performing arts theater and administrative offices. The construction start date for that is in June of 2009.

The Riverview School houses 180 students which have complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities. The school was founded in 1957 on Cape Cod, equidistant from Boston and Providence, RI. The cost of the project was not disclosed. Riverview did not return GlobeSt.com inquiries by deadline.

The new dormitory will share space on campus with both the recently constructed middle and high schools, as well as a two-story dining hall. The Lavoie House is the other dormitory, which is made-up of three interconnected wings. The two-story buildings house a total of 13,000 sf with 24 total bedrooms. The buildings individually have a living room, kitchen and bathroom on each floor.
