School Wraps-Up 13,000-SF Dormitory

EAST SANDWICH, MA-Riverview School will use the facility to house 26 middle and high school students, along with six staff members in two shifts.

EAST SANDWICH, MA-Riverview School–an independent, co-educational, residential school–is finishing construction of its 13,000-sf dormitory here. The property will house 26 students from either middle or high school in single-occupant rooms–along with six staff members, which will work in two different shifts. Norwell, MA-based Acella Construction was the developer of the project located on the school’s campus at 551 Route 6A on Cape Cod.

The new Janse-Butler House began construction in June of 2007 and finished base construction roughly a year later. Further site work pushed the completion date and the budget to just under $4 million, according to Saul Schrader of Acella.

The building was proposed as a 16,000-sf dormitory, which held off on the second phase of construction–a 3,000-sf wing. The space for the additional 3,000 sf had a site confliction with the current infirmary. To accommodate the second phase, further renovation will have to be done to relocate the infirmary. For the meantime, the school is preparing to start construction on a new student center with a performing arts theater and administrative offices. The construction start date for that is in June of 2009.
