Meijer Signs as Anchor for 1M-SF Development

NEW LENOX, IL-The grocer and retailer has gained village approval for its site plans to build on an 18-acre site in the one-million-square-foot Cedar Crossings project.

NEW LENOX, IL-Meijer has gained village approval on its site plans to build a new 156,000-square-foot store in the one-million-square-foot Cedar Crossings development on US Route 6, west of Cedar Road and along the new Interstate 355 extension. The project, being developed by the Cleveland-based Zaremba Group LLC, is located near the new Interstate 355-Interstate 80 connection, making it an ideal place for retail development, says Tricia Diduch, planning technician with the village of New Lenox.

“It’s a very prime, phenomenal retail location, and this development is very important to us,” Diduch tells GlobeSt.com. “The village has grown exponentially in the past 10 to 15 years and we just don’t have the retail base and sales tax revenue that will help us provide the services our 25,000 residents require. The projected sales tax revenue for us is absolutely huge.”

New Lenox is projected to grow to as many as 90,000 residents during the next two decades. The Cedar Crossings development, which has been in planning since 2006, will provide more than $60 million in additional sales tax revenue, Diduch says, nearly $11 million of which will go to the village.
