Cracking the Books

An interesting by-product of the current economic malaise is the significant growth of executive education programs that are focused on real estate, as professionals seek to hone their skills, or add new capabilities that will hopefully give them an edge in this highly competitive environment when jobs are increasingly few and far between. They also expect that the additional education listed on their resume will enhance their chances of standing out from the crowd. One such opportunity is available at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, which offers a strong roster of programs for executives. According to Corlette McCoy, director of the office of executive education who I spoke with last week, the school is working hard to introduce new courses and one-day programs that will address the needs for specialized education and training in response to today’s market needs. This is a good strategy as many executives find that they need to reach back into their past to uncover experience, such as workouts and asset management that is in increasingly heavy demand, and a brush-up course can go a long way in preparing you for your next interview.
