"Located between Morristown Memorial, which is a state-designated trauma center, and Overlook Hospital--home of the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute--the new facility is a natural addition to the community," says Joseph A. Trunfio, Atlantic Health's president and CEO. "It will bring world-class sports rehab services and prevention programs to athletes of all levels and all ages, from student-athletes to seniors."
The facility will rise on the northwest end of The Green at Florham Park, a 268-acre mixed-use, master planned development being joint ventured by the Mt. Olive-based Rockefeller Group Development Corp. and the Roseland-based Gale Real Estate Services Co. on the former Exxon Mobil research campus. In addition to the new sports institute, Atlantic Health in 2008 acquired the naming rights to the new $75-million, 120,000-square-foot New York Jets headquarters and training facility within the development.
"Atlantic Health's presence in the development, along with the New York Jets and a Marriott Renaissance ClubSport, which combines a 250-room hotel with a 75,000-square-foot health club and spa, continues to add to the success of the project," says Les Smith Jr., RGDC's executive vice president.
