Individual units at 73 North Market Street are 2,300 square feet each and cost from $2.1 to $2.6 million. The purchase of a condo includes a voucher for one Smart Fortwo car, a 95% recyclable vehicle that emits up to 50% less polluting emissions than an average car, says Goldstein. Each unit will also have access to a vehicle lift that opens directly into each residence. Additional luxury amenities include a green rooftop lounge, private spa, fitness center, pool, private terraces and a separate guest residence that can be used for visitors.

"Over the last ten years I've had clients come to Asheville looking for a certain product that offers a level of fine living," says Goldstein, who is also executive managing director and partner of local commercial real estate firm G/M Property Group. "We feel this project speaks to the cultural paradigm of the conscientious consumer. The introduction of the parking garage is pioneering another branch of the sustainable movement."

Each space within the parking structure will be outfitted with individual plug-ins for the vehicles, which will be powered with electricity from solar rooftop panels. Asheville-based Siegman Associates Inc. in partnership with Michael Silverman, AIA, is handling the building design and construction management.
