Dirtt CEO Mogens Smed said the new plant, along Interstate 95 near the Georgia-Florida line, will complement its manufacturing facility in its home base of Calgary, Alberta. "By setting up in Savannah, we are much closer to the eastern cities where several key clients are based, and we can take advantage of existing rail lines for delivery," Smed stated in a release.

Dirtt will become the second-largest tenant at Crossroads, which totals nearly 430,000 square feet in two industrial buildings. Other tenants there include Gulfstream Aerospace, the Home Depot, Lowe's, Georgia Tech Engineering and Technology Campus, and Dollar Tree Stores.

Tom Beebe and Robert Hutson of CB Richard Ellis represented Dirtt in the lease negotiations. Cliff Dales of Colliers Neely Dales was the listing broker for 155 Knowlton Way.

In a related note, IDI confirmed to GlobeSt.com that it has eliminated 14 positions at its Atlanta headquarters as well as offices in Dallas, Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, FL. IDI COO David Birdwell said the majority of layoffs result from the loss of business last year by a specific client, whom he declined to identify.

"Despite our losses, we remain optimistic about the year ahead and are investing in our future with the relocation of our headquarters office to Midtown Atlanta, continued development of projects already in the pipeline and the launch of our newest venture, IDI Investment Management," Birdwell said in an e-mail statement.
