Wishing I Was 24

News on the business front may be bloody, but for MBAs the reports are equally distressing. According to a survey by the MBA Career Services Council, 56% of business schools reported a significant decrease in recruiting this winter, and, based on the news, the outlook in the spring for graduate students isn’t going be any prettier. Worse yet, according to an article yesterday in the Wall Street Journal , internships are also few and far between. This has hit close to home. My son Doug, an undergraduate heading into his senior year, is finding zero internship opportunities. But the good news is that he, and a lot of other intern hunters, for lack of opportunities, are planning on making an entrepreneurial go of it this summer–no, not a lemonade stand. This may be the best experience of all, because when we come out of this mess, fast-footed, freshly minted graduates–undergraduates and MBAs–will be in a position to capitalize on the incredible recovery ahead. Almost makes me wish I was 23 or 24.
