ATLANTA-This city is home to some of the largest US restaurant chain headquarters, including Arby’s, Chick-fil-A, Church’s Chicken, Hooters, Popeye’s and Waffle House. The deepening recession is expected to impact both sales and expansion for these and other restaurant businesses based in Atlanta, which has become a hub for the industry in recent years, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution .

The country’s economic situation makes it no surprise that more Americans are projected to eat at home in 2009. Even fast-food restaurants that enjoyed increased sales in 2008 are pulling back on expansion plans. According to research by Technomic, restaurant and bar sales are expected to drop 2.6% and sales at full-service eateries are expected to drop a full 6% this year.
