SUNRISE, FL-Stiles Construction has broken ground on the City of Sunrise Public Safety Complex, located at 10440 West Oakland Park Blvd. The Fort Lauderdale-based firm is building the $30-million, 109,000-square-foot facility to house the city's police and service headquarters. Stiles Corp. did not return calls about the project Monday.

"It will serve as the City's Emergency Operations Center," Sunrise Mayor Roger Wishner stated in a release. "It will offer specialized areas where staff can conduct training, house prisoners and secure evidence. But most importantly, it will be a valuable community resource that is both visible and accessible to the public we serve."

The City of Sunrise has been in need of the building since its former facility was demolished in 2007. Currently, the police and fire departments have been operating in temporary offices throughout the city's existing facilities.
