Software Developer to Build $70M Facility

CARY, NC-SAS is expanding by adding a 38,000-square-foot center that will add jobs at its world headquarters.

CARY, NC-Business analytics software and service firm SAS has plans to build a 38,000-square-foot cloud computing facility on its world headquarters campus at 100 SAS Campus Drive. The firm, which employs more than 1,400 employees locally, will use the building to provide data-handling capacity as it expands its OnDemand solutions software. Jobs are expected to be created, but the number of jobs will depend on demand for the firm’s hosted software solutions, says SAS spokesperson Beverly Brown.

“This project is proof that despite the down economy, SAS continues to grow and innovate,” said Jim Goodnight, CEO of SAS, in a release. “The growing demand by our customers for hosted solutions has given us this opportunity to invest even further in North Carolina and the Cary community.”

The $70-million structure will be built to the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards for water and energy conservation. SAS indicates that 60% of the project’s construction and equipment spending will be in North Carolina, and that approximately 1,000 people will be involved in its design and construction.
