Yum! remains on track to deliver at least 400 units in Chinese the market, and is the largest US developer in the country, said David C. Novak, chairman and chief executive officer.
"We continue to believe that the Chinese restaurant business continues to be one of the greatest opportunities of the 21st century," Novak said. The second quarter saw the opening of 118 units in Mainland China.
India, too, provides major opportunities, he said. The company already has 50 KFC units and 157 Pizza Huts, and recently opened its first Taco Bell on the subcontinent.
"India is a huge opportunity for our brands," Novak said. Other Taco Bell units will open in Panama, Peru, Cypress and Korea.
For the quarter, overall company revenues were $2.5 billion, down 7% from the previous year. After foreign currency translation, worldwide system sales declined 4%, and operating profit rose growth rose 4%.
