State Casts LEED-ing Man

Massachusetts development is bringing sustainable film studios and office retail to the commonwealth.

BOSTON-Massachusetts may be looking to become Hollywood East, but a planned new film studio/mixed-use complex could make the state Hollywood Green. Plymouth Rock Studios–a digital film and television studio complex to begin opening in phases in Plymouth, MA, next year–will include soundstages, office, hotel and retail space, all built to LEED certification levels, CFO Joseph DiLorenzo told attendees at ICSC’s New England Idea Exchange, held in Boston last week.

The complex, to be built on the 242-acre former site of the Waverly Oaks Golf Course, would be the largest film and television studio complex in the Northeastern United States, according to developer Plymouth Rock Studios, Plymouth Rock, MA.

“Movies are the only recession-proof industry,” DiLorenzo says. “During tough times, people are looking for entertainment. We’re building a studio that will not just produce movies, but television, commercials, video games and music.”
