In addition to opening on the same date as the first Holiday Inn on Aug. 1, 1952, the new hotel is part of IHG's $1-billion relaunch of the Holiday Inn brand, with new signage and amenities. The company's redesigned logo incorporates the iconic green sign that clearly identified Holiday Inn along highways and streets across the US.

"We're proud to come full circle in Memphis, bringing the new Holiday Inn sign back to the place where it all began," says Kevin Kowalski, senior vice president of global brand management for Holiday Inn. "It's very fitting that the family of Kemmons Wilson has reinforced their commitment to the future of our brand and the importance of the global relaunch."

More than 1,000 of Holiday Inn's 3,200 hotels worldwide have undergone rebranding and received new amenities such as new bedding, showers and lighting, along with lobby upgrades. IHG expects to complete its relaunch of the brand by the end of next year.

Memphis-based Wilson Hotel Management Co. owns and manages the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Memphis-Wolfchase Galleria under a license agreement with IHG. The hotel is located at 2751 New Brunswick Road.
