The 10-story class A building at 300 SE Second St. opened in 2000 and includes various other corporate tenants and professional firms. Stiles worked over the past year and a half to attain LEED-EB certification for the 100,340-square-foot, Mediterranean-style building.
"Given our commitment to green practices, pursuing LEED certification for our corporate home was a must," says Doug Eagon, Stiles president. "We're already seeing energy savings that point to payback in the first year, and tracking the operating costs will give us a benchmark to gauge whether the process makes financial sense for existing buildings we own or manage for clients."
Stiles achieved LEED-EB status through measures including water use reduction, optimized energy performance, indoor air quality, sustainable cleaning practices and products, and effective recycling and waste management programs. Employees and tenants were also able to contribute by riding bicycles to work or driving alternative-fuel vehicles, for which dedicated parking is available at 300 Las Olas Place.
Stiles, which oversees 37 million square feet of commercial space throughout the Southeast, received LEED silver certification in May at its new Lake Shore Plaza II office building in Sunrise. The five-story, 128,470-square-foot structure was the first multi-tenant office building in Broward County to receive the distinction.
