Sweetwater is serving as general contractor for the 47,000-square-foot tenant build-out, which includes a 7,000-square-foot fully accredited transplant testing laboratory, reception and waiting areas, interview rooms, locker rooms and showers, lunchroom, offices, mailroom and call center.
The new facility, which is located at 691 Central Ave. here, is due to be completed in October. "The NJ Sharing Network headquarters is an outgrowth of our expertise in the healthcare field," explains Ronald Witt Sr., Sweetwater's president and CEO.
The new NJ Sharing Network headquarters will be twice the size of the current facility at 841 Mountain Ave. in Springfield, which has become too small to support the operations of the organization. The growth has been due to the increased need for organs and tissue. Last year the Network recovered 601 organs, compared to 566 in 2007.
The building will include green features such as recycled and renewable flooring and special lighting fixtures, as well as certified cradle-to-cradle furniture, which meets an environmental standard ensuring that product components contain no human or environmental hazards.
The Walsh Co. LLC of Morristown is the construction manager for the project, while the architect is Posen Architects of West Orange, which specializes in medical and healthcare facilities.
A non-profit, federally designated organization, the NJ Sharing Network is responsible for the recovery and placement of organs for more than 4,500 New Jersey residents currently awaiting transplants. NJ Sharing Network is part of the national recovery system that serves over 102,000 people on waiting lists.
