NEW YORK CITY-Brooklyn political leaders came together against the backdrop of former machine shops, where German U-boats were once de-constructed, to announce $15 million in state funds, over three years, for the Brooklyn Navy Yard expansion. The money will be used to close funding gaps in creating a multi-tenanted green manufacturing center as well as an exhibition and visitors’ center, with the goal of crating nearly 300 green-collar jobs.

Making the announcement were State Senate Majority Conference leader John L. Sampson and state Senators Velmanette Montgomery and Daniel Squadron. Among the other politicos speaking were borough president Marty Markowitz and City Councilwoman Letitia James.
