The company opened 240 Dollar Tree and 19 Deal$ stores in fiscal 2009. While the company did not announce specific numbers for 2010, expanding Deal$, which sells discounted items at multiple price points, said President and CEO Bob Sasser.

"By lifting the restriction on the price point, we can add more categories. This gives us the ability to serve more customers," Sasser said. "We're in this for the long haul. As we expand Dollar Tree, we will expand Deal$ when it fits."

Consolidated net sales for the quarter were $1.25 billion, up 12.1% from the third quarter of 2008. Comparable store sales increased 6.5%. Dollar Tree operated 3,803 stores in 48 states as of October 31, 2009, including 156 Deal$.
