Hallelujah, this is my last column for 2009. For good reason, few, if any of us, will regret tearing the last page off of the calendar this year. However, with great anticipation, we look forward to 2010, a year that promises to usher in the beginning of the long-anticipated real estate recovery. But the world changed in ’09, and so has our industry. 2010 will only give us a glimpse of how businesses will need to restructure to be competitive, and new platforms will emerge that will drive the next generation of the business. It is going to be an era when firms will have to be either small and stealth niche players, or larger, multi-dimensional, global players in order to be competitive. I have found the back end of all of the real estate recessions to be exciting and opportunistic times, and one such era is upon us. I’ll be back in 2010 working the Executive Watch beat, but I will moving on to a new and exciting role as head of Korn/Ferry International’s North American Real Estate Search Practice, to serve clients on a global scale.
