"Tony has an extraordinary track record in the real estate industry and is widely respected as one of the leading consultants serving the talent needs of public and private companies engaged in the real estate business," says Michael Franzino, global market managing director of Korn/Ferry's global financial services market, in a release. "He brings the knowledge, proven track record and know-how to further establish Korn/Ferry as a leading human capital solutions firm in the real estate industry."
LoPinto tells GlobeSt.com that while the future of real estate markets still remains in flux, a brighter fate awaits those searching for jobs. "The transactional side [of commercial real estate] has not become invigorated," he explains. "But when that gears up, that will fuel organizational changes." He notes that as public markets become active, with IPOs, etc., the organizational effects will follow, namely management teams, particularly those with experience in public markets.
His career has spanned executive positions in finance and capital markets, development and investments with Bankers Trust, Mobil Land Development Corp., Cushman & Wakefield, First Chicago and the Charles E. Smith Co., where he managed the company's New York Stock Exchange IPO. The international company is acquiring his services in a volatile time for hiring, with national unemployment currently in the double digits.
However, LoPinto sees the changing dynamics of the real estate industry in terms of solutions, not problems. With every downturn, he explains, new positions are produced to handle the unique problems that arise from every downcycle. Korn/Ferry has already made the transition, adding LoPinto at the start of this year. In his new role with Korn/Ferry, he remains in New York City and continues in his roles as governor of the Urban Land Institute, member or NAREIT, Pension Real Estate Assoc., the Real Estate Roundtable and the National Multi Housing Council.
LoPinto writes weekly for GlobeSt.com in his Executive Watch blog about real estate trends and hiring practices.
