Rosen, whose seven hotels and resorts in the Orlando market employ dozens of people of Haitian heritage, is looking to build hundreds of one-room homes costing $5,000 each that would be sold at 1% interest with flexible financing options for long-term mortgages. The homes are designed to withstand hurricane and earthquake damage.

"Could you imagine the pride of saying, 'This is my little house?' I mean the pride that will come with this is just unbelievable, and we are hoping it affects generations of Haitians," Rosen says.
