At its 137 Anthropologie units, same-store sales rose 10%, while Urban Outfitters, with 155 locations, recorded flat results. The smaller Free People division, with 34 units, posted a 11% increase.

The fourth quarter was an improvement over the year's average comparable-store sales results, when they fell 3% across all three chains. During the year, Urban opened 13 of its eponymous stores, 16 Anthropologies and four Free People locations.

Urban's fourth-quarter sales results follow a strong holiday season, when total sales reached $452 million in November and December, a 16% improvement from the same period in 2008. Same-store sales increased 5% over the holidays.
