Lenders Association Sweetens Pot for Members

NEW YORK CITY- Vornado's Fascitelli will address RELA in person and in a future podcast, part of the lenders' group's increasing value-add for members

NEW YORK CITY-When Michael Fascitelli, president and CEO of Vornado Realty Trust, steps before the lectern at Tuesday morning’s Real Estate Lenders Association gathering, he’ll not only launch the association’s slate of events for calendar 2010. He’ll also be the first speaker whose presentation is videotaped for a podcast on the RELA website. It’s one of the association’s initiatives to provide greater value to its membership at a time when bang for the buck is an especially meaningful concept.

The current environment looks similar in many ways to the one that launched RELA in 1992. “The organization was started in that down market by lenders who felt they needed a venue to network, help each other find positions and come to terms with what was happening during that real estate crisis,” says RELA VP Larney Bisbano.

The intervening years, which saw RELA become widely recognized for its educational series and expand to three other cities, were mostly boom times by comparison, Bisbano says. “Not since the early ’90s have we had to grapple with the sort of environment that has brought us back to where we started.”
