Bloomberg Fills Top Rent Guidelines Post

NEW YORK CITY-Jonathan Kimmel, a Rent Guidelines Board member since 2006, has been named to succeed Marvin Markus as chair of the nine-member group.

NEW YORK CITY-Filling a post that has been vacant since November, Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday named Jonathan Kimmel as chairman of the New York City Rent Guidelines Board. Kimmel has been a member since 2006 of the RBG, which is mandated to establish rent adjustments for the nearly one million dwelling units subject to the city’s Rent Stabilization Law.

Marvin Markus, a managing director at Goldman Sachs, resigned as chair of the RGB late last year. “For the past eight years, Marvin Markus served that role with sincerity, and I know Jonathan Kimmel will bring the same degree of commitment,” says Bloomberg in a statement. “His experience on the board and his diverse background as an attorney, public servant and educator will serve him well as he takes on this new role.”

Kimmel previously served on the board as one of five members representing the general public. The RGB also contains two members to represent tenant interests and two to represent the interests of owners.
