The federal government's mandate in California for companies to incorporate sustainable initiatives was the spur that drove transit authority's request for proposals. The 35,000-square-foot system was funded by the Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) grant program under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). By producing its own energy, the company can receive less with an impact of saving 400 tons of carbon dioxide projected over 35 years.
The $2.178-million project was installed over three months and assisted with much sought-after jobs, added 30 green-collars during its construction. Martifer is a multinational provider of solar energy solutions.
This stays in tune with a study recently released by Cushman & Wakefield along with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's (NEEA) BetterBricks initiative, measuring the top 25 green CBD's across the country. Within the top twelve CBD's, five are in California--San Francisco (1), Oakland, (2), Los Angeles (4), Orange County(6) and San Diego(9).
The study rated these cities comparable to each other regarding retro-fitting, leasing and sales of investment grade 'green' office buildings. Jack Davis, market manager for office real estate for NEEA's BetterBricks initiative, notes in a release, that many city's developments regarding green were subject to policy initiatives and changes. Martifer Solar, concurrently, is predicting the solar market to grow by 35% over 2009 levels.
