He notes that the building is centrally located at the base of the San Mateo bridge and features many improvements advantageous to the printing firm's operations, such as heavy power, HVAC and parking that meets Mimeo's requirements. The building is owned by DCT Industrial, a Denver-based publicly traded REIT that was represented by Colliers senior vice president Greig Lagomarsino and Yamin.

Lagomarsino notes that the transaction is "one of only four deals over 50,000 square feet signed in the first quarter of 2010." Mimeo is headquartered in New York City, with regional printing operations in Newark, New Jersey, Memphis, Tennessee and now Hayward. Specific terms of its lease were not disclosed.

The Mimeo lease is one of two recently closed transactions involving firms from out of the area that have relocated or have plans to relocate in Northern California. In the other, the national law firm of Foley & Mansfield has signed an eight-year lease for 23,445 square feet of office space at Oakland's Kaiser Center at 300 Lakeside Dr. The Minneapolis-based law firm will move from Downtown Oakland to the Lake Merritt area property in July or August of this year, according to Charlie Allen and Ryan Hattersley of Cushman & Wakefield, who represented the Swig Co., owner of the 910,000-square-foot office complex.

Built in 1960 as the world headquarters of Henry J. Kaiser's industrial empire, Kaiser Center is a 28-story office tower that includes a variety of retail space and a 1,339-space parking structure. The property also features a 3.5-acre rooftop garden with views of Lake Merritt, San Francisco and the Oakland/East Bay hills. Terms of the deal, in which Studley represented Foley & Mansfield, were not disclosed.
