NEWARK-Construction management firm Tocci/Driscoll nabbed a $107.9-million General Services Administration's Design-Build contract--funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009--to refurbish the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building at 970 Broad St. here.
The firm is a partnership of Woburn, MA-based Tocci Building Corp. and L.F. Driscoll Company, LLC in Bala Cynwyd, PA. Tocci/Driscoll will oversee structural, operational and aesthetic work on the downtown structure, which is home to regional offices of several US government agencies. Tocci/Driscoll also brought KlingStubbins on board the as architect of record for the Dattner Architects-designed project.
Named after Newark native and 40-year member of the US House of Representatives, the Peter W. Rodino Federal Building is a 16-story, 467,000-square-foot precast concrete structure that was constructed in 1968. Previous renovations provided an upgraded HVAC system and interior improvements to several floors.
