LEED certification of Ocean County College's John C. Bartlett Jr. Hall was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project and the broader community, says DMR. These features include: alternative transportation; heat island roof; no potable water irrigation; 40.1% water use reduction; Energy Star-rated light fixtures; high efficiency windows; sun shades; 83% construction waste management; 23% recycled content in building materials; 32% local and regional building materials; and low to no VOC in sealants, adhesives, paint and carpet.
The $12 million, 30,000-square-foot facility features classroom space, computer labs, faculty offices, student and staff lounges, storage areas and a conference room. According to DMR, Ocean County College's continued surge in enrollment necessitated the new building. Enrollment numbers have increased an average of 7% annually. Currently, more than 9,000 students attend the school.
