SAN DIEGO-Grubb & Ellis Co. expands its San Diego office with the addition of Paul O’Boyle as senior vice president of its investment group. It also adds the new retail team of Anthony Villasenor, Ryan Gonzales and Christopher Belaire.

O’Boyle will focus on investment sales and court appointed receivership assignments. He brings 20 years of experience in commercial real estate. “I am confident clients will benefit from the service he provides as well as Grubb & Ellis’ comprehensive and integrated service platform,” says Greg Coxon, president of brokerage services, in a prepared statement.

O’Boyle joins Grubb & Ellis from San Diego-based Commercial Realty Advisers Inc. In March, Grubb & Ellis acquired the principals of CRA to serve as the foundation from which to build an owned brokerage office, as GlobeSt.com previously reported.

At CRA, O’Boyle served as a real estate attorney and broker responsible for the syndication and placement of private equity for the purchase of nonperforming notes and real estate-owned properties. He also performed due diligence on note underwriting, title review, loan work outs, note sales and foreclosures. Prior to joining Commercial Realty Advisors in 2008, O’Boyle spent four years as an in-house counsel and project management leader at McComic Consolidated/Transwest Housing Inc., a home builder. He also held leadership positions with Keith International Inc. and Carlson Technologies Inc., having begun is career in 1989 as a development planner and project manager with the City of San Diego.

The new San Diego office, which opened in market, expanded its capabilities with the addition of the retail team, which joins from Voit Real Estate Services. Villasenor joins as senior vice president, Gonzales as senior associate and Belaire as research coordinator.

“Tony and his team are well-known throughout the San Diego marketplace,” says Coxon in a prepared statement. “Their knowledge of the local marketplace and reputation for providing unparalleled client service are consistent with our objective of attracting quality professionals to our office.”

The team represents numerous retail clients, including Blockbuster Video, Bridgestone/Firestone, Ultrastar Theaters, Wal-Mart Stores, Original Roadhouse Grill, Elephant Bar, Burlington Coat Factory, Wells Fargo, California Bank & Trust, Reading International/Pacific Theatres, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, and World Petroleum.

With more than 28 years of industry experience, Villasenor has been involved in numerous transactions with a total value in excess of $1 billion. He joined Voit in 2008 as a senior vice president of the company’s retail and investment group, specializing in landlord and tenant representation, as well as shopping center development and redevelopment. He began his career at Merrill Lynch in 1982, and in 1986, co-founded Business Real Estate Brokerage Co., which was later renamed to BRE Commercial.
