BOSTON-Skanska USA has won the $48-million contract to renovate and expand Terminal C at Logan International Airport. Skanska was selected for its winning bid by the Massachusetts Port Authority. Terminal C serves a total of five airlines: JetBlue, AirTran Airways, Sun Country Airlines, Cape Air and United Airways.

The project will entail the construction of a consolidated baggage check point in Terminal C and the creation of shell space, anticipated for use with future construction. Renovations will range from replacing the main ticketing hall to completely switching out the entirety of the current HVAC system. Installation of sprinklers, lighting, new ceiling and electrical and communication systems will be part of this process.

"Work will require extensive coordination in order to minimize disruption to passengers, exemplifying our ability to complete a complex renovation and expansion in an airport setting," says Paul Hewins, general manager and EVP of Skanska USA's New England region, in a release.

This renovation/expansion falls under Massport's $1-billion capital program, which it approved mid-Februrary. The fund will be funneled to 379 projects over a five-year plan. The plan will improve security, parking facilities, port facilities, as well as fixes and upgrades to projects like Terminal C. FAA Stimulus grants and Massport generated funds came up with $737 million, while $271 million came from Customer Facility Charges, and $46 million were generated through private funds and special facility bonds.
